Chickpea Dog Treats

We normally use potato flour in our treats because the other grain free flours are even more expensive.  Mom’s had her eye on chickpea flour but  thought instead she would use a can of chickpeas.  A can of chickpeas cost mom 99 cents!

Here is the recipe:

  • 1 729 ml can of chickpeas
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tbsp cocoanut oil
  • 2/3 cup of parmesan cheese (or any other cheese)

Mom blended the chickpeas up then added all the other ingredients.  She rolled them into training treat balls and baked them at 350 for about 25 minutes until they were golden brown.  Depending on the size of your treats, you may need shorter or longer.

They smelled so good!  This is a really healthy recipe and mom saved some of the dough to use as Kong stuffing!  Bonus!  Jack loved them but of course he had to work for his treat!

Then mom let him goggle it up!

I loved them too!  Mom’s never given us chickpeas before.

Yes, I enjoyed them quite a lot.

Just found this recipe on pinterest. Sounds easy and cheap. I'm sure my dog will love it.

We discovered that my Newfie Summer loved chickpeas when my daughter dropped a salad that contained them on the floor and Summer ate around everything else to get to the chickpeas. I can just feed them to her straight out of the can she likes them so much but she does also love Hummus so we're going to give these treats a try.

I can't believe we JUST thought of chickpeas! We hope Summer likes them!
